We're very sad to say that one of the most beloved members of our Irish community has passed away.

Patrick (PJ) Cullinan, 85, of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends, July 6, 2008. PJ was born in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland, April 17, 1923 and came to Kansas City in 1950. PJ was a driver for the KCATA/Metro for 36 years. He loved being an American citizen and took great pride in his Irish heritage, one of the patriarchs to the KC Irish community helping to keep alive the Irish culture, music and dance that he loved. He was involved in many Irish organizations and was the Grand Marshall of the KC St. Patrick's Day Parade and Irishman of the Year in 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary (Mollie), his sons Michael, Kevin (wife Debbie), John (wife Kerry), and daughter Marie. Grandchildren; Kathleen Fleming (Zac), Maura Harris (Jim), Patrick, Mollie, Kayleigh, MacEion & Sean. Great Grandchildren Maeve and Adelaide Fleming. Sister Nuala Ryan (Ireland), Niece Majella Meyer (Kansas), Patrice Curly, Neil Ryan (Ireland) and Don Ryan (Australia). He was preceded in death by his parents Dennis and Mary, siblings Mary, John, Peggy and Ciss. PJ was a life member of The Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee, Celtic Fringe, ATU Local #1287, and Boy Scout leader of Troop 40. The family extends a special thank you to Debbie who helped care for PJ in his last days and Heartland Hospice.
The visitation will be held Wednesday, July 9 at Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, MO, from 5:00-8:00, Rosary at 7:00. Funeral mass will be Thursday, July 10th at 12:30 p.m., internment will be at Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Redemptorist Capital Campaign Fund.
